How it started...
From a closed newsletter to public newsletter; here is my story.
When growing up, I never expected myself to be in the OSINT field. From as long as I can remember, being a teacher is what I really wanted to become. So my whole school career was focused on getting my teaching degree. And I succeeded!
But, coming out of school, there were no fulltime positions available in primary schools near me. Therefor I fell back on my part time job I had during my studies. I was working for a large social media company in the Netherlands. I stayed there fulltime for more than 3 years and in that time I specialised myself in the legal side.
One of the many things I did, was contact with Law Enforcement (mainly the police). For example when they wanted to request data of a user, I was their contactperson.
The social media company suffered from the popularity of Facebook and others. My job became less and less busy and I was looking for other opportunities and applied for a job at the police and an ‘internet investigator’. I got hired straight away and have been working with the Dutch police for over 13 years now.
But the feeling of wanting teaching others and sharing my knowledge, is something still embedded inside of me. So I started sending out a monthly newsletter for LE only. Sharing OSINT tips and tricks to help others in their investigations.
At one point I had over 3000 subscribers! Insane! But the administrative load was too much to handle alone. After 10 years of sending out the newsletter, I stopped.
After stopping for about 5 months, I still got daily requests from colleagues who would like to sign up. I was struggling to find a method on how to continue. And I think this newsletter, here on Substack, will be it.
In this monthly newsletter I’ll share my knowledge, tips and tricks on OSINT. It will be free and public for everyone to sign up.
There will be beginner tips, old tricks and advanced techniques and maybe sometimes a walkthroughs of investigative methods.
